Founders — Vijay & Rakhi Kapoor
The Beginning
It started with one man's conviction.
In 1994, Vijay Kapoor started Derby with no investors and no safety net. Only the belief that a man's clothes speak before he does.
He built it the way his generation built everything: with stubbornness, taste, and a refusal to cut corners on the things that matter. Beside him through every season stood Rakhi Kapoor, the steadying force behind the name. Together they turned a single idea into a label men came to trust.
The Derby man — lifestyle
The Community
For the man who wants to look like himself, only sharper.
Derby began in denim, and denim is still in our bones. Over thirty years it grew into a full wardrobe: shirts, linen, trousers, jackets, tees, each held to the same standard, for the same man.
But Derby was never just a label. It became a community: thousands of men across Tamil Nadu and beyond who came back year after year and made Derby part of how they show up in the world. When you wear Derby, you are one of us.
Ricky Kapoor — Derby Tailor Studio, Mount Road
The Next Generation
A new chapter, the same standard.
Their son, Ricky Kapoor, carries that standard into a new era. On Mount Road, Chennai, he opened Derby Tailor Studio: eight thousand square feet of engineered fit, Japanese denim and Italian linen, where bespoke tailoring meets the craft Derby was built on.
It is a place India has never quite seen. And it never forgets where it came from.

The Road Ahead
Built to last. Built to grow.
Today that legacy is being scaled with intent. Under the leadership of Director JK Samuel, Derby is sharpening for its next chapter: more stores, a growing online home, and the same promise that started it all.
The ambition is bigger. The standard has not moved an inch.
